What should I do if tapping my Burner fails?

Learn what to check if tapping your Burner card fails during tasks like loading BurnerOS, confirming a setting, or signing a transaction.

Updated over 3 months ago

If you’re experiencing issues when tapping your Burner card, whether it’s for loading BurnerOS, confirming a setting change, signing a transaction, or any other action, try the following:

  • Proper Alignment: Ensure your Burner card is aligned correctly with your device’s NFC reader. Even slight misalignment can prevent a successful tap. Try repositioning the card until the device recognizes it. On an iPhone, the NFC antenna is typically located at the top of the phone. On an Android, the antenna can be placed anywhere, so you may need to look up your model to pinpoint its location.

  • NFC Support: Verify that your device has NFC support.

  • NFC Enabled: Confirm that NFC is enabled on your device. Without NFC turned on, your device won’t be able to read the Burner card.

  • Device Restart: Try restarting your device.

  • Try Another Device: Use another smartphone or desktop reader to scan Burner.

  • Software Updates: Ensure that your device’s software is up to date. Sometimes, updates include important fixes or improvements for NFC functionality.

  • Verify Internet Connectivity: BurnerOS is a web app and requires connectivity to load.

  • Correct Burner Card: Always make sure you’re tapping the correct Burner as instructed. Tapping the wrong Burner, especially in critical operations like converting from Gift Card to Wallet, or duplicating your Burner, can cause errors. Double-check which Burner is required before proceeding.

  • Ensure Burner Has No Physical Damage: A hard bend, burn or internal damage to the chip can render Burner inoperable.

  • BurnerOS Restart: Try reloading BurnerOS at os.burner.pro.

We always recommend backing up Burner prior to storing significant assets on it or using it in a multisig configuration.
