Is BurnerOS open source? Can I run it myself?

Learn whether BurnerOS is open source and what parts of the system you can run yourself.

Updated over a week ago

BurnerOS, the web application you access at os.burner.pro, is not open source at this time. The hosted version of BurnerOS relies on several backend services that we operate to ensure security, performance, network reliability, and correct asset handling. Because these systems work together as a managed stack, BurnerOS cannot be easily self-hosted or run as a standalone application.

Although BurnerOS itself is not open source, the core technology that powers it is. BurnerOS is built on two open source libraries:

  • libburner: A higher-level library for interacting with Burner secure chips.

  • libhalo: A lower-level library that enables direct communication with Burner secure chips from web browsers, mobile apps, or desktop environments.

These libraries are fully open source and available on GitHub for developers who want to build custom applications, backend systems, or alternative interfaces that work with Burner cards.

You can also explore other open-source projects built by the community to work with Burner cards.
